Special Events & Outreach

Habitat for Humanity of Mesa County is involved in a few additional events that may seem a little less Habitat and a lot more community focused. Come spend some time with us or just stop by and say hello. For more information on the following events contact our Marketing and Public Relations department at 970-255-9850 ext. 205

In January we are hosted by First Presbyterian Church for their annual Mission Fair. We spend a few hours among other Mesa County nonprofits providing opportunities for their church members to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity.  This year the fair is scheduled from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on Sunday, January 28th.

We hold an annual Food Drive each February to benefit the Food Bank of the Rockies Western Slope Branch. The Food Bank graciously fills the pantry one time of our new homeowners when they move into their home. It is our opportunity to say thank you and help them fill their pantry.  This year our food drive will take place at the Safeway on Redlands, on Saturday, February 3rd from 10:30 to 1:30.

Each year in March we participate in the Home and Garden Show presented by the Housing & Building Association of Western Colorado. We always have unique DIY projects from the ReStore and give a few gift certificates to be used the next time you are shopping with us.  The show is scheduled for Friday, March 2nd-Sunday, March 4th at Two Rivers Convention Center.

We are proud to be part of the Grand Valley Sharefest.  This movement began in 2008 with twenty churches and over three thousand volunteers that wanted to show the love of Jesus in a tangible way.  Volunteers get together in groups and adopt a project for someone in need.  A typical project may be to help an elderly member of our community by servicing their air condition or pull weeds in their yard.  Hundreds of projects are completed each Spring during Sharefest weekend.

Early December our Faith in Action Team put together a collection of items for the Sheepherders Project. The Sheepherder Project is a partnership between Grand Valley Peach and Justice, Hispanic Affairs Project and Colorado Legal Services. The focus of the project is to provide humanitarian interaction for the sheepherders and to provide them with basic items such as phone calling cards, basic medical and hygiene along with additional winter clothing.

The kind employees of Grand Junction Pipe ask us to be at their private golf tournament each fall. We promote Habitat and sell a few tickets to a hole in one putt worth thousands of dollars. We appreciate them inviting us back each year and we get to keep all the dollars raised that day.

Throughout the year we participate in a variety of volunteer and housing fairs. Please contact our Marketing and Public Relations Department at 970-255-9850 ext 205 find out where we will be next.
